Creating disposable email addresses
Resolution
Please note: this feature is available only to Mail Plus subscribers. For more information on Mail Plus, please visit this webpage.
All the disposable addresses that you create use the same simple pattern:
yourbasename-keyword@yahoo.com
You choose one base name (yourbasename). Once you have the base name set, you can create up to 500 disposable addresses, each using a different keyword of your choice. For example, if you chose jaguar9441 as your base name, you can create jaguar9441-sneakerstore@yahoo.com, jaguar9441-FlyHighAirline@yahoo.com, and so on. You can create new addresses instantly, whenever you need them, from the Mail Options page.
You create your base name just once. After that, you add keywords to create as many as 500 unique disposable addresses.
To create your first disposable address:
- Sign in to Yahoo! Mail.
- Move your cursor over the gear icon in the upper-right corner of the window, and select Mail Optionsfrom the menu that appears.
- From the list on the left, select Disposable Addresses.
- Under Pick a base name, type a base name of your choice, then click the Continue button. Your base name must begin with a letter, contain no spaces or symbols, and be different from your Yahoo! ID.
- To create your first complete disposable address, type a keyword to use with your base name. Use a word that makes sense to you and make sure not to use spaces or symbols.
- In the lower part of the window, you can optionally specify several other preferences for the new disposable address:
- Deliver email to: Choose a personal folder where you want to direct all messages sent to this disposable address. The default delivery folder is Inbox.
- Sending name: The name your recipients see in the From area of messages sent from this address. This name appears in addition to the disposable address.
- Apply Filters: Check this option if you want Yahoo! Mail to apply your personal filters to the messages before delivering them.
- Use SpamGuard: This option cannot be disabled. SpamGuard filters all messages sent to your disposable address. If SpamGuard identifies a message as spam, it delivers the message to your Spam folder, even if you have set the Deliver to option for this address to a personal folder.
- Notes: Add a note to help you remember the purpose of this disposable address. For example, you can make note of the web site you created it for.
- Click Save to save your changes.
To create additional disposable addresses later:
- Move your cursor over the gear icon in the upper-right corner of the window, and select Mail Optionsfrom the menu that appears.
- Select Disposable Addresses form the menu on the left.
- Click the + Add button in the upper left-hand corner.
- On the right side of the screen, enter information about your new disposable address. You will need to assign it an address (adding a suffix to your base name); the rest of the information is optional.
- Click Save to save your changes
